Kids are excited to come to school every day. We spend so much of the day every day developing the whole child. We make sure that they can read, write, draw, do math, and make friends.
My kids come from diverse backgrounds.
Some of my students have active parents who really take the time to nurture all aspects of their children's lives. Some of my families are working multiple jobs to make ends meet. My job is to make sure that all of my students feel like they have the same opportunities in their lives!
My Project
A few years ago we started to bring the two first grade classes together to have a weekly Maker Time. The kids LOVE coming together and creating/making together. During this time, kids have a chance to use items like yarn, beads, pipe cleaners, craft sticks, sticker gems, as well as other supplies I have in the room to make what they want to make.
They make toys for their friends and pets, they make jewelry, they make designs from their imagination.
Their imaginations are so wide it is endless what they can come up with. It is wonderful to see the pride and joy they have in what they have been making. Unfortunately, we are starting to run out of some of our supplies. And I would like to add more types of supplies to infuse more creativity into this process.
In funding this project you will be facilitating discovery in two first grade classrooms. You will be developing the maker side of two classrooms full of first graders for years to come!
