My students need Twisteezwire, wooden spools and shapes, glue dots, Rexlace, string, connector straws, pipe cleaners, craft sticks, and other small craft supplies to create a STEAM learning center which we will call a Maker Space.
I am a teacher who will be returning to the classroom after just over a year away. I was forced to pause my career as I battled brain cancer and recovery. I am blessed to be doing well and returning to teaching which I missed dearly. I will be teaching a 6th grade classroom for the first time ever and I couldn't be more excited! But before I left on medical leave, I gifted most of what I had acquired to incoming new teachers. So I have a clean slate and many needs to gather to make the next school year a great one!
My class is always a mix of general education and special needs students, but you'd never guess it.
In my class, we are all just learners. I am happy to call myself a learner too and my class is designed to encouraging critical thinkers, problem solvers, and innovators who understand the value of learning.
My Project
STEAM is Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math. What better way to incorporate all of these subjects into one activity than to create a maker space? I would like to create a maker space for my 6th grade classes which is a center designed to inspire students to use everyday items to build and create.
With a healthy variety of craft supplies, my students will have an awesome center to apply math, engineering, and art to design unique creations!
This maker space station will include items like pipe cleaners, string, wooden spools and shapes, glue dots, metal fasteners, pom poms, feathers, beads, craft sticks, and straws just to name a few. We will also include recycled items from our own classroom such as plastic bottle caps, old newspapers and cardboard, and aluminum cans.
This maker space center will be open to students to use during math and science blocks, and during our "Maker Space Mondays" activities.
