My students need a collaborative workspace in our library. Some of the items I'd like our students to use are the K'Nex sets, which allow kids to follow direction cards to design structures or use their imaginations.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The campus I work at is a Title-1 and Dual Language campus in a suburb of a large city. Many of our students don't have access to internet or technological devices at home. Many of our students are labeled at-risk by the State of Texas due to socio-economic or linguistic reasons.
Our students are wonderful and inquisitive learners, but living outside of a large city limits their access to resources such as museums and cultural events due to transportation issues.
My Project
I believe every student needs a well-rounded STEAM education to be successful in the 21st Century. Science, technology, engineering, art, and math - STEAM - are the foundations of our modern world. I plan to supplement their classroom education by providing various experiences throughout the school year. Each student will have opportunities to experience what it means to solve problems by: dreaming, building, designing, examining, testing, demonstrating, destroying, and improving. Students learn how their world works when they have the opportunity to see and build it themselves.
I’d like to give each class an opportunity to visit the library in the mornings before school starts to participate in a variety of self-chosen STEAM activities.
Utilizing our library in the morning gives us a chance to extend our school day in a fun way while encouraging learning and exploration.
I’d like to order several K’Nex and Keva builder kits that allow students to experiment building and designing simple machines, structures, and work with gears. I am also including origami paper to allow students to explore their artistic talents.
