I teach math to 50 fourth grade students in a small, rural town in Virginia. Each student is special and many face challenging obstacles on a daily basis. They come from different economic backgrounds but when they are in my math class, I try to create a safe place for them to learn in and be comfortable with one another.
My students love being able to create things using their imagination and expressing themselves towards one another through different mediums.
My Project
I would like to have a Maker Space to implement a "soft start" each morning for my students. They would be able to use the building blocks, tiles, playdoh or art supplies. This would allow for a more relaxed morning routine.
Students would be given the opportunity to build and create using their own imagination.
Fourth grade students typically do not have the chance for this during a regular school day. I would like to give my students the opportunity to create and express themselves through art and building.
