My students need Brother CS6000i Feature-Rich Sewing Machine and other tools and resources to create projects and investigate a variety of skills that will encourage and challenge them to learn about new things.
We want to create a space and provide the resources needed for our students to expand their knowledge base. We are a rural high school of 959 students in a low economic area. 62% of our students are eligible for free and reduced lunch. We have a large population of Hmong students and an increasing population of Hispanic students. Over the last few years, we have been implementing strategies to encourage our students to attend post secondary educational institutions. Currently, only about 30% of our students continue on to a 4 year college.
We are always looking for ways to provide our students with the skills, knowledge and resources that will help prepare them to be successful in their classrooms and in their life after high school.
Some of our students are faced with many challenges that are out of their control. It is our goal to help them overcome these challenges and become successful, productive citizens.
My Project
We would like to create an area where students will have the resources and tools to create projects, explore various skills and tools, investigate how things work and expand upon skills and concepts that they have learned in their classes. Students will have a central location to work on projects and access supplies and materials. If they have an English or Science project, they will be able to come to the Maker Space during or after school to complete their project without having to worry about purchasing materials. If they were working on particular skills in their Robotics or Apparel classes, they will have a place to come and expand upon the skills that they have learned in class.
