Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Hello Potential donors: Please let me tell you about my students. They are eager and energetic Middle School students who live in an urban setting. Our school is a Title I school that is comprised mostly of Second Language Learners, and at least 10 percent Special Education students. We have close to 80% of our students on free or reduced lunch.
My students come running to my class wondering what they are going to learn that day.
I try to keep them interested by finding connections with what they are learning with real-world applications when I can. They, along with myself, love working with our hands when we can.
Please give me and my students a chance to learn more about our world.
My Project
Remember when you were in school. Woodshop classes, Home Economics, etc. I would love to bring these experiences to my students with this Professional Development.
My students should have the experiences I had as a student.
I remember working with my hands and figuring things out. I want this for my students also. This Professional Development is a good start for bringing back this to our school.
Sessions will provide me with skills and model lessons using hands-on engineering and design challenges, digital manufacturing, microcontrollers and electronics and a variety of other inexpensive low- and high-tech materials and equipment. They will engage me in thinking about and exploring maker pedagogy related to assessment, connecting with content standards, designing for accessibility, documentation, and storytelling.
They will walk me through the steps of visioning my goals for engaging students in making and frank discussion around how to get my program and space up and running, including budgeting for equipment, materials, and maintenance. I will leave with enough resources and skills to be comfortable engaging my students in making when school starts in 2018-2019.
