Ms. Ashley from Vicksburg MS is requesting professional development through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
I need to attend the Maker Educator Collective Tier 1 Bootcamp at the Pathfinders Summer Institute to learn how to adapt Maker Education into my curriculum.

My gifted students come to me to experience and explore challenging learning opportunities while they discover their talents. I try my best to provide meaningful and memorable learning experiences for them. As a teacher of intellectually gifted students, my goal is to provide hands-on educational learning experiences which nurture creativity, peak students' interests and increase problem-solving skills while meeting their social and emotional needs.
Despite their many hardships, they come to school eager to learn.
We are a Title I school and one hundred percent of our students receive free lunch and breakfast. Many students participate in our backpack meals program which provides weekend meals for students. Once they're in my classroom, they are able to let their creativity flow! While they may come from various family backgrounds and have different learning styles and abilities, one thing they have in common is being intellectually gifted. They are curious, self-motivated, eager to learn individuals, and are our future problem solvers of the world. It is imperative we provide them with the necessary tools to work efficiently and effectively.
"Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn." - Benjamin Franklin. Engagement is the key to lifelong learning. Engagement can be taken to a higher level when students are able to incorporate their creativity. As a teacher of gifted and talented students, I am working to build a MakerSpace within our classroom. I am continuously working to grow and learn to be a better educator. The Summer Pathfinders Institute will continue to build on my passion for science, creativity, and hands-on involvement in the classroom. This program integrates hands-on engineering and design challenges using inexpensive but high-tech equipment.
The incorporation of STEM within the curriculum allows students to think inventively and imaginatively, solve problems with specified constraints, build creative designs, and so much more.
I am very excited about this opportunity to learn how to incorporate Maker into our daily lessons. When students are able to add their input and direct their learning, they are more excited about their learning and coming to school.
