Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have taught in the same urban inner city area for the past 20 years. The students have families who work hard and often share homes, work multiple jobs and find other ways to be successful while living below the poverty line. Over the past few years, I have noticed the great interest students have to learn, interact, and use technology.
Technology is no longer a matter of the future, rather it is "immediate need".
The classroom is the arena in which the creativity of students can be unleashed. No longer is the classroom just about the three "R's", it is about 21st Century Thinking and Skills.
My Project
Maker Bootcamp will help this old teacher learn new tricks! I am a rookie maker who is seeking to expand skills and knowledge to support students in becoming creative makers.
A Maker Corner will allow my students to build, engineer, design, and create to solve community problems.
A Maker Corner combines all of the STEAM elements and demands students to literally make solutions. The Maker Bootcamp promises to "provide attendees with skills and model lessons using hands-on engineering and design challenges, digital manufacturing, microcontrollers and electronics and a variety of other inexpensive low- and high-tech materials and equipment" Please support my first step into creating a Maker Corner in the classroom.
