This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is K-8 with a richly diverse student population. I teach 7th-8th grade math, science, and Maker. My students absolutely LOVE my Maker class. We have made everything from low tech duct tape flower pens to interactive planetary mobiles using Makey Makey and Hummingbird Arduinos. What the students create is endless!

My wish is to create an environment where students experience unlimited opportunities to create something they never imagined they could.

By offering a myriad of different projects, tools, and skills, the students can tap into their potential.

My Project

My Maker space has grown significantly since I first started teaching Maker five years ago. I started with just a few tool bags, three soldering irons, and various electronic components.

As my Maker space continues to grow to meet the needs of my students, the tools and equipment must evolve also.

I've received donations for a bandsaw and chop saw and once reluctant students are now proficient in the use and safety of each tool. They take pride in their proficiency and in doing so have asked me to purchase an air compressor to help clean the tools and classroom.
