Makeover for a Moribund Music Room

My Project

The students at our school have been excitedly practicing their new instruments and the staff has enjoyed having the halls once again filled with music. Students are constantly in the room practicing, listening to music, or simply socializing with their peers. We have truly created a community within the school where students can make memories and friends with students from diverse backgrounds.

While the program is doing great, the room itself remains largely unrenovated from the school's establishment in 1910 - over 100 years ago!

Although our students love the space and the program, everybody is in agreement that our facilities need quite a facelift. The doorknobs in the practice rooms constantly get stuck (which is a safety hazard) and there are holes in many of the walls. The practice rooms also lack efficient acoustic paneling to aid in soundproofing and do little to dampen the noise of students trying their hardest to focus on their practice.

We will replace our doorknobs so students will not have to guess whether or not their favorite practice room is open, and use the acoustic paneling to make the space both functional as a practice room as well as more aesthetically pleasing. Having the mop/vacuum will help us maintain this cleanliness and aid in the cleanup of large messes (brass instruments produce a lot of spit), and having a supply of paper towels will allow us to clean and maintain cleanliness on a smaller scale. Many students have already volunteered their time to help with giving our classroom the makeover it needs - all we need is the supplies. These students deserve a space that is as amazing and wonderful as they are!
