Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a teacher of a wonderful, curious group of second graders. Most of them are second language learners. All of my students love to learn and observe world around them. Being from a low income neighborhood school, I want to give my students as many opportunities as I can to learn academic skills using technology and working on language and math skills in an exciting way.

One teacher recently shared her experience observing students in another school making vocabulary books using digital photos they make in groups. I got so excited because for my English learners choosing a vocabulary word from one of our reading stories and then to use the digital camera to take a picture to illustrate the vocabulary word is a great and exciting way to enrich their language proficiency.

In order to complete this project, I will need one digital camera with a memory card. This project will allow my students to finally complete their vocabulary book. They will also take pictures to illustrate math problems. I also envision my students making a book of important places in the school to write a book about what happens in our school life. The benefits of this project are endless and will continue for years to come.
