My Students

I teach classes of students with disabilities in the 4th and 5th grades. Many are diagnosed with a Specific Learning Disability or Autism. My students come from all socioeconomic backgrounds but have one thing in common...a thirst for knowledge.

Our students live in a semi-rural area with limited opportunities.

Our students attend a Title I elementary school in our district with almost 500 students; 53% of our students receive free or reduced-cost lunch.

My Project

My students need to have writing be fun to engage them in writing skills.

Due to many of them having a specific learning disability and remote learning, writing is challenging. As future middle schoolers, I know the importance of developing written literacy skills. Using fun journal suggestions, pens, and markers will help motivate the excitement for writing. My students deserve to have the opportunity to learn to be good writers, even with the challenges they face.
