My students need items such as Developing Writing Skills Magnetic Teaching Charts, Writing Activity Pockets and Daily Language Practice Journal to help make writing more interesting. I am requesting writing activity pockets, learning centers and blank books to use in my writing center.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Do you remember creating a story that you were proud of? I remember being younger and loving writing time in class. The majority of my students do not have that love for writing. Writing is hard for them and they often tell me they have nothing to write about.
My students are 2nd graders at public elementary school.
They will loop with me to 3rd grade. Our school is in the middle of a neighborhood and has a variety of students of different races, religions and economic backgrounds. These students are fun loving kids that love to learn.
My Project
Writing has become a much larger part of the curriculum since the Common Core was developed. My students have a hard time sitting down to write a story. I want my students to love writing and to be able to write a variety of genres and for many different purposes. Mechanics are hard for them and that is probably one of the reasons many of them do not want to write. I can teach mechanics when they understand the process of writing a story and can get their ideas down on paper.

I am requesting writing activity pockets, learning centers and blank books to use in my writing center. I am requesting a variety of writing resources that I can use during my writing mini lessons as well as during my Work on Writing time. Students would have materials to help them write non-fiction, imaginative, and persuasive pieces. It is important to have a variety of materials available for my students so they do not become bored with writing. I believe if I can spark an interest in writing with my students then they will feel more successful and the love of writing will have begun.
