Make Us Makers! 3D Printing to Better Our School Environment
We need materials to make our own 3D printing design & fabrication lab. They need filament for a classroom Makerbot, a 3D scanner, and three 3D printing pens.
My students are a unique and diverse group of learners, who speak languages from all over the world, but that's not all they are! During the school day they are scientists, engineers, designers and creators!
While our school operates withing a struggling economic context, my students are passionate learners. They are eager to learn and excited to take on challenging projects. I am excited to give them a unique experience that is purposeful, stimulating, and exciting. I want to encourage them to work through the ever-relevant process of investigation, engineering, and design, and help them develop all of the skills necessary to reach that goal. Students will become critical thinkers while engaging their creative abilities, within a highly meaningful social and scientific context of environmental design.
"Each year at our school, twice a year, we have one week called Integrated project week (IPW,) where students work on interesting and creative projects that connect all subjects. Earlier in the year, we learned about our local environment and some problems that need to be fixed! This year, we want to be engineers. For our project, We want to design and create objects that will be used to help encourage people to recycle and make environmental impacts in and around our school.
In Their Own Words
We want to create a classroom space where design and create physical models, using a 3D printer, to to make our school environment a better place. My students need materials to make our own 3D printing design & fabrication lab. They need filament for a classroom Makerbot, a 3D scanner, and three 3D printing pens. By asking donors to give us these materials, we will be able to succeed and reach our goal. Our project might help people choose to recycle and make the world a better place. It will help us learn that we are capable of being more than students, and be more like scientists and engineers!
We will use these materials to make 3D objects as a part of our IPW project. We will use a 3d scanner, handheld 3d printing pens, and Makerbot filament to help us learn about things that engineers and scientists do. Going through this process will help us learn to design and create solutions to problems around our school!"
