I teach in a high poverty school. My students face many challenges in their home lives. Many face trauma on a constant basis, but when they come to school, my students are eager to learn! We are a tight-knit group and consider each other family. I refer to them as my kids. It is important to me to make those little connections with every single child. This group of kids is well-behaved, sweet, and they love to learn new things!
These students work hard every day, are eager to learn, are kind to each other, and we refer to our classroom as our "family." We are lucky to have the opportunity to spend our time together!
We have a lot of fun together and actively engage in the learning process together through high quality literature and math lessons, as well as exciting room transformation projects. We love learning and trying new things!
My Project
The last time I saw my students was on March 17th. I sent them home not knowing if we were going to be in our classroom together again. My students and I meet every day online and I write emails and handwritten letters to them.
I want my students to know how much I wish we were together, how much I miss them, and how much I care for them.
I sent my students home with activities, packets, experiments, and books. I want to follow-up and give them something else to smile about. Items, such as sticker by number books, joke books, multiplication war flashcards, and colored pencils will be something to lift their spirits. I want them to continue learning and growing at home. I have already collected journals and coloring books, which I will add to this collection.
Due to COVID-19, my students are learning at home through online platforms. They will benefit from some hands-on, screen-free resources. I can't wait to see the joy on their faces and hopefully it will brighten their day when they receive their care package!
