Without a pencil sharpener and this word family center, my students end up having to wait for supplies to be assembled when they should already be ready for them in our classroom. This would increase my classroom efficiency and allow us to capitalize on our time together.
My students are mostly low-income African-American children at a Title I school in Oklahoma.
Our school is on the improvement list and needs a lot of help from the community, teachers, and donors like you. Our resources are astoundingly limited and teachers tend to spend way too much of their own money on supplies like this, especially when our financial situation is taken into consideration.
My Project
After receiving these important supplies, my students will be able to sharpen their own pencils at all times, without having to wait for me to go use a communal sharpener on my breaks. This will mean that I will have time to do other tasks for my students during my planning and lunch times, which seems small, but all time adds up!
Additionally, the word families center activity that we will receive will be a visual representation of the word relationships we have been stressing all year long. This may encourage my students to play with the English language more than they already do!
This project will make my classroom more self-sufficient and, in turn, make my students more self-sufficient.
It's important to realize how freeing independence can be, and we will be able to learn this through our project.
Additionally, I love taking fulfillment of Donors Choose projects to teach my students how to feel and express gratitude for those who are so kind to them in this world.
