Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
How can we get little kids interested and involved in helping the Earth? Teach them with their favorite Disney characters, of course!
I teach thirty, creative students in second grade.
They attend a year-round, public school in California. My kids are little bundles of energy and very helpful. My students are learning about the world they live in and what sustainable means. They are finding out just how much our Earth is in danger and want to help!
My Project
We are requesting a recycling bin with designated plastic, can, and waste receptacles to put in the hallway at our school. The funds collected from recycling the cans and plastic bottles will be used to buy seeds and bulbs to beautify our school and oxygenate our environment. We are also requesting a rolling cart with bins and waist aprons to allow us to roll our gardening supplies around the school and keep our materials accessible We will also visit other classes to explain why recycling and making "green" choices makes sense. To do this, I will utilize the children's universal love for all things Disney.
We will decorate our supplies with Disney characters to make them child friendly and get our student body interested.
It is so important to teach children about what they can do to save the Earth. It brings out their inner Buzz Lightyear, empowering them to make changes that will affect them in the years ahead and reminds them that they can soar to infinity and beyond!
