My students are artistic and passionate about the work they create. They are ready to learn and grow in the art of theatre and performing. The students work tirelessly to create productions, both in the classroom and in fully realized stage productions. As a class, the students strive to react honestly in imaginary circumstances. Behind the scenes we strive to create theatrical environments designed or inspired by the vision of the students. The shear scope and variety of what these students are asked to do is nothing short of amazing!
My Project
In theatre we are constantly building sets, which means we are ALWAYS cutting wood. As it currently stands we are having to use tools that are less safe than I would like, and it hinders the students abilities to learn with hands-on application. A proper table saw would allow the students to work with tools that most professional or collegiate theatre companies have, bettering there readiness for the future should they pursue theatre beyond high school. It would also all us to create a safer classroom environment and give students the opportunity to work more with common equipment that they may see in many other real world jobs. With my school no longer offering a shop class, my technical theatre classes give students some of the only opportunities to work with tools that they will get, so adding more practical tools will enhance their quality of learning significantly.
