My students need math manipulatives! We especially need base ten blocks to teach them about place value. Easel pad lined paper is also needed for anchor lessons when introducing new concepts!
My students have all the energy in the world. They are eager to learn, and they love to make learning into a game. When learning material can be fun for the students they stay engaged and have a motive to learn. Students learn the best when they get to work with material hands on, see modeled examples and analyze what they need to do.
As a first year teacher I have very little material, especially math manipulatives for my students.
I want to help my students feel connected and see instruction in several different ways!
My Project
These materials will mostly help students learn math skills. The base ten blocks will help second grade students learn about place value. Addition and subtraction skills are prevalent in this grade. When students are given hands on material they are able to break down how addition and subtraction actually work.
This years second grade teachers have never worked in second grade, and do not have many of the math materials needed.
These students are also learning about fractions. Having fraction tiles, connecting blocks, and anchor charts could really help.
Inflatable globes that the students can easily pass around make games out of are great for social studies. As well as world maps and magnets for science experiments are essential for the classroom!
