Make Reading Meaningful & Diverse for Children!
Hooray! This project is fully funded
My Students
My students are diverse, eager, and excited third graders ready to dive into an exciting year of learning and growth! Many of them are minorities and bring wonderful contributions to the classroom environment.
Reading is a joy for my students, through which they can embrace their diversity by connecting with characters in a variety of books including: culturally competent novels, comics, fantasy, fiction, sports, and history.
The third graders in my class are loving, caring, and active members of the classroom. They are eager to start project-based learning this year with the third grade team!
My Project
My students love to share their reading with friends, teachers, and family as they discover new ideas or just find something worth laughing about! In order to expand this interest they must not run out of books to read in the classroom or at school, since many of them lack access to books at home.
Students need access to books that perk their interest and represent their cultures to drive their learning and love of reading.
Currently, my classroom has limited books that are not all on grade-level and are not representative of my students' diverse backgrounds. My students are always thankful for what they have available to them, but would certainly benefit from more current and rigorous texts that will help them embrace their differences and value the cultures of others.
