Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students come from a low-income community. Pre-k is a student's first experience at "real school". Building a strong literacy foundation is critical to help these students become successful adults. By creating a variety of hands-on games for my students to play, I can help them be prepared for Kindergarten.

My district's goal is for all pre-k students to be Kindergarten ready by 2025.

Providing my students with seating for the literacy center will help engage them in books and foster a love for reading.

My Project

My students love to go to centers! However, the reading center is the least popular.

Research has shown that when a classroom's literacy center is set up in a way that is comfortable and inviting, students are more likely to go there and engage with books.

Help my students gain a love for reading! I want to give the students a comfortable space to read books and play literacy game. Our current literacy center is filled with a variety of books, but we do not have comfortable seating options available. Fostering students love for learning will help prepare them for kindergarten!
