I teach third grade at a diverse Title I school in southwest Florida. Our students come from numerous cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. We are an "A" school and one of 27 schools chosen by The Early Childhood Technical Assistance Center (ECTAC) for Exceeding Expectations. Through lots of hard work, our school continues to help our students succeed.
We are lucky to have nice playground equipment and a large kickball field for our students to play on at recess.
However, we have no balls or other equipment for students to play with to give them recess choices.
My Project
Recess is important! It improves brain function, promotes social skills, fights childhood obesity, and reduces stress. Everyone needs a break from the hard work of learning, and we want our students to have more choices and ways to play besides the playground equipment!
For this project, I am requesting recess equipment for the entire school to use.
Playground balls and bases will allow all students to learn how to play kickball and work as a team. Hula hoops, flying discs, and jump ropes will give students more choices at recess time. All students at our school, K-5, will have access to and be able to use this recess equipment!
