Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students are excited to begin working with materials once again. In the library, we want to offer our students makerspace options! Some materials are reusable, while others have a one time use. We have collected many donated & recycled materials. Our library has become overrun! While it is a great problem to have, the disorganization is making it difficult for our students to imagine and create projects because they can't truly identify the materials they have available. We would like to organize these materials, so we know what we have. It is hard for students to imagine what they can use if they can't see it.
We would like to unpack our maker space materials and give students visual access so they can see what they can work with.
By getting clear storage containers, we can separate our materials and label them properly. When our students create engineering designs for structures like bridges, chairs, or balloon powered cars, we want them to look around the room and be inspired to create, by seeing the materials around them. When they develop their own creations in our makerspace, we want them to feel invigorated. It will help encourage their imaginations. We also want to add in some materials that are currently sparse for for students, such as modeling clay and marbles. They are so excited to build, and these containers and materials will help us display what we have, without digging through cardboard boxes spread across the room.
