My Students

Do you remember your teachers sounding like the teacher in the Charlie Brown specials? My students need engaging instruction to make the material they are trying to learn come to life!

My sixth grade students attend school in a high-poverty urban district in Ohio.

They are all eager learners, but lack the supplies necessary to bring them to the next level. They struggle with their focus and engagement with the content in all of the subject areas. State testing requires my students to become proficient problem solvers, thinkers, and writers. To meet this goal they will need more than just textbooks.

My Project

I have requested a classroom subscription to BrainPOP. BrainPOP is an online website that displays animated, curriculum-based content that is intended to be fun and motivational for students to watch and interact with. The animated short videos are partnered together with quizzes, supplemental information, and related materials, covering the subjects of science, social studies, English, mathematics, engineering and technology, health, the arts and music. It is a wonderful resource to supplement the textbook materials provided by the district.

This project is essential to break up the monotonous textbook driven curriculum provided by the district.

It will provide my students with an interactive experience for all subjects taught in the classroom. This will improve my students' focus in the classroom and their retention of the material learned.
