Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are a group of highly gifted and talented builders, creators, and problem solvers. They are interested in applying what they learn in the classroom to the real world with hands on STEM projects, materials, and activities.
My students come from challenging neighborhoods and tough backgrounds, but they continue to rise above these circumstances, not in spite of their community, but with their community.
My students do amazing things within our school building every day and what they learn and discover continuously transcends beyond our classroom into actions that help make a difference in their communities.
My students have the kindest hearts and want to do good in and for the world. They're always asking the questions: How can we help? What can we do? Then they work tirelessly by learning and putting in the hard work to make positive change within their communities daily. They continue to rise up and be world changers!
My Project
My students would benefit from classroom activities that put number sense and fluency at the forefront of their math learning. Number sense is the ability to see connections and relationships between numbers and is a valuable tool for life long mathematicians.
Focusing part of our math block on developing number sense and fluency will help my students become better mathematicians.
Adults think about numbers and solving math problems using strategies and relationships with numbers in their head to complete real world math problems every day. Focusing on building these types of skills in my students will not only benefit them now but for the rest of their lives. The math fluency kit from VersaTiles will help give number sense and fluency purpose and guidance during our math time.
I can't wait to get to explore numbers and mathematical problems in a new and fun way with my students!
