This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach at a Title One school in Richmond, Virginia. The kids who attend my school reside in a low-income, but close-knit neighborhood. All of the students who attend our school receive free breakfast and lunch.
My students are amazing kids who are constantly exceeding the goals and expectations I have set for them.
They make me happy to be an educator because they amaze me with the growth they display.
Instead of reaching for the stars, they are becoming the stars!
My Project
My third graders are enthusiastic and eager readers; our reading block is their favorite part of the school day. My kids are hard workers and are excited about learning!
I am asking for stools and drawer carts to keep my classroom exciting and organized!
Can colorful and exciting seating options have a positive impact on student engagement? Yes, I believe they can! Why? Because kids like having choices and the ability to make decision like "an adult".
My students enjoy the time they spend working in their learning communities during reader's workshop and math stations.
Unfortunately, the first few minutes of our stations are spent trying to find chairs for each group member. Having extra stools will alleviate this issue.
I also spend the last few minutes of our time collecting student work. I believe having the drawer carts will force students to be more responsible for turning in their work because they will have to put their work in the drawers themselves!
Our time can be better spent preparing for the current and next learning experience.
