Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students come from high poverty, but it does not stop them from being eager to learn. We are a Title I school, and we are a free lunch campus. They are an exceptional group of students.
My students are a great group of kids.
They work really hard and have such amazing personalities. They enjoy laughing and making learning fun, but they know when to take things seriously as well.
I am always impressed with their desire to help others. My homeroom class has won 2 food drive competitions this school year. They do not have much, but are willing to share what they do have. They brought in over 100 canned food items to help members of our community during the Thanksgiving holiday. Their thoughtfulness is inspiring.

My Project
This is my first year in a 3rd Grade classroom. Throughout the year I have realized many times that I did not have all of the resources that I needed to help my students reach their full potential in Math and Science. I had to create math "manipulatives" and draw many poor representations of shapes on the board. This led me to research items that were available to help me be a better teacher.
The magnetic Fraction circles and bars and the Giant Magnetic Geometric shapes will help me to show my students a clearer representation of the shape or fraction.
It will improve my teaching, which will in turn have a significant impact on student learning. These tools will bring the focus to the Math and away from my "not-so-great" drawing skills.
The other Math items that I have added to my list will be amazing to have in order to teach my little Mathematicians. The cards, centers, and activity cards will truly benefit their education.
My students are part of a Leader In Me Elementary School. With this title, comes great responsibility. Students have to keep track of their work throughout the year, including data tracking. They keep all of their work in a binder. This requires that most of their tests and work need to be hole punched. I spend a lot of my spare time in the teacher's workroom punching holes into their papers. The electronic 3 hole punch will save me valuable time and give students the opportunity to do the work themselves.
Math requires a lot of practice! We have already gone through more than 2,000 pencils this year and we need more! These pencils work best in our pencil sharpener, and the erasers hold up really well too.
