My first graders are little bundles of joy. These little learners are young, vivacious, and eager to learn. They wear their hearts on their sleeves, love to show kindness, and they just love everything there is about school.... and work so hard to learn!
These first graders are eager to learn every day and come to school ready to work hard.
They are striving to look and sound like learners and are learning perseverance while they learn to become better readers.
My Project
I attended a 30-hour course on multi-sensory teaching. Multi-sensory learning is the theory that individuals learn better if they are taught using more than one sense (modality). I know that this type of learning will help all of the first grade students but, especially those that have reading difficulties.
Multi-sensory teaching requires special tools for students in my classroom.
They allows for students to make print and words come alive to the touch.
At centers students will use the wikki-stix and pipe cleaners to practice the phonics pattern or sight words of the week. The trays will be used with sand to practice tracing letters while saying the sounds. The letter cards with textures will be utilized in a similar way. To stay organized, the envelopes will house multi-sensory tools like the sandpaper, crayons, and other textures that can stay in their desk.
