I teach elementary computer technology classes to students in grades K-5. We are a small community in the center of northern Minnesota. We have over 500 students who come from a mixture of ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds. 27% of our school population is Native American. 55% of our students live below the Federal Poverty Line. Even though many of them come to school with so much challenge in their lives, they are typical kids. They love to learn, be with their friends, and create as much as possible.
Our students are naturally engaged by and drawn to robotics, this project will help our students use their passion for technology and robotics to better understand math.
As students develop their understanding of measurement they will program Dash and Dot to travel unknown measurements to solve problems.
Using robotics as an approach to help solve 2nd grade level math problems helps students develop real context for the math problems they are solving and will result in deeper learning.
