My students need help with understanding math. Some are confused with place value so a visual chart will be helpful with my math groups. Also playing division games will make learning more fun for them.
Our school serves students whose parents are in the military. We have two Navy facilities on our peninsula and a Marine Base as well. Currently we have 27 military families.
My students come from a diverse social economic background and have learning disabilities.
I've had some who have been homeless to some whose parents have to work two jobs to make ends meet. Our entire school has free lunch and free breakfast. My students struggle to achieve academically and maybe even feel bad about themselves and their learning.
They want to learn, but sometimes have trouble paying attention. Others have autism and have trouble sitting in a seat for an hour. My students are excited to be in my class because they know how much I care about them and how much I know they can learn in my classroom.
My students just need some extra help to achieve and learn how to learn. Their parents are great overall, doing their best to raise them. But it is hard to work all day at physically demanding jobs and then have the energy and patience to deal with a highly demanding child. I want to do a good job.
My Project
In this project, I've requested different math games. My students know I love math and want to pass that love onto them. By playing games, division can become fun. By learning songs for multiplication, my students might be able to remember the times tables. By seeing a place value chart, my students can remember how to say the number. I want math to be fun for them and to be able to watch their math skills grow.
Currently I have a 3rd grade small group and three different 4th grade groups trying to grasp the common core math concepts.
Students like coming into my class to learn but need games to make learning fun.
