My students need opportunities to explore coding resources (code and go mouse), build and create various items using hands on materials (legos), and get excited about science and STEM materials.
My name is Madelyne See, and I teach first grade in Franklin, TN.
I teach at a title one school that is looking for ways to incorporate hands on/real world experiences in the classroom.
I have such an amazing group of students that are diverse, innovative, creative, and are not afraid of a challenge. I have recently been studying ways to incorporate more science, technology and engineering skills into my classroom. In addition, I am trying to find ways to prepare them for things they might see in the real world. For example, I have been researching ways to introduce coding skills to my students. I am also trying to build a maker space to my classroom. I want to give my students a chance to be creative, innovative, and inspire them explore the world around them!
I believe that the items in my cart will allow me to help my children reach our goal! Any donations would be greatly appreciated!
My Project
STEM challenges and Makerspaces are very big in education right now! Instead of using worksheets and outdated ways of teaching, a Makerspace and STEM activities would allow me to incorporate more science, technology, mathematics, and and engineering skills into my classroom. I want to provide opportunities for my students to be creative, innovative and explore the world around them. In addition, I want to find ways to challenge my students and provide them with relevant/real world situations they might find later on in life!
There are multiple ways I plan on using the items I have chosen in my classroom.
First, the code and go mouse and activities mats will allow my students to practice their coding skills. I feel this is very important because technology is such a huge part of our society. Next, the Lego sets will allow my students to practice their engineering skills. For example, my students can build a village, various buildings, etc. Finally, the straw constructor STEM building toys will allow my student to be innovative and think outside the box. For example, I plan on having my students work together to create a shelter for their favorite animals when we study habitats.
With your donations, I believe I can get students super excited about learning. I feel this will taking their learning to the next level and inspire students to think outside. Thank you so much for considering our project!!!
