I am a new special education teacher in San Francisco. I currently teach a self contained special day class of 7 students with learning disabilities, emotional and socio-economic challenges. My students love playing math games that teach them real life math skills. These types of games help make math real and demystify the abstract concepts of math. When math is made real my students thrive and their self esteems soar. They feel like they can "get math" when they can touch manipulatives, flip a game piece, roll a die, count out change or manipulate big colorful numbers. I would love to be able to extend real life, hands on math experiences for my students who learn best by doing. These experiences are particularly important for students like mine who have struggled with basic skills and have been discouraged by traditional textbook methods that have failed to capture their imaginations and address their unique learning styles and challenges. Please help me provide real life math experiences for my students by funding a collection of wonderful math games! These games will enhance the education of students for years. These games will meet the wide range of grade level skills of my students.
