My Students

My students are each unique individuals, who strive to bring so much life, energy and engagement into my classroom. They, like any group of teenagers, have a life full of hormones, stress and challenges; although life is difficult, they do what they can to bring their A- game into the classroom. This doesn't mean that every day everyone is perfect, but it does mean that my students see value in being in school, even when it "sucks".

I am immensely blessed to be surrounded by so many students who work hard and persevere through trials.

More than 50% of my students are free or reduced lunch, my students are ethnically diverse, and their home life ranges all the way from living in a trailer with their whole family, to riding a horse after school to bring in the cattle.

I love my students and want to be the best teacher I can for them.

My Project

I will use the wobble chairs, pock sockets and desk bands the to give the students who need to fidget during class (especially, but not limited to, ADHD students) an outlet for that energy. This will help students focus on learning, which will improve their understanding of material.

We do all of our practice and work on whiteboards every day so we don't have to go through a lot of paper.

The whiteboards that the students currently use are breaking and chipped. A new set of boards and markers will help students more clearly see what they are doing in their practice problems. Students still do write some notes, so the students will benefit from having extra pencils and an electric sharpener in the classroom.

All the books will help me create lessons based on the math we're learning that are more applicable to real life and how students might actually see this math in their future.

One of my favorite parts of teaching transformations is doing an art project with the students, but I only have dull crayons. The colored pencils will help the students create better transformations.

Students earn smarties in my class for getting a good score on their unit test, or they show significant growth from their pretest to their unit test.

I always have air fresheners in my classroom because teenagers don't smell good all the time. And a bad smell is distracting. The air fresheners help mute those distracting smells. Post it notes and file folders help me stay organized in class.

The love of math has decreased even more since students had to learn online. This will directly impact my students because they will help me improve my lessons and engage students more in math, therefore producing more students with STEM skills.
