My students need these math supplies to give them hands-on opportunities to manipulate numbers in many different ways because they all learn differently. These include number lines, balances, a math toolkit, and other items.
My students are amazing, but they struggle with math. Most are not confident enough in their learning and struggle with understanding the math concepts at grade level.
I believe by providing hands-on, active, engaging projects and challenges will allow my students to think outside the box and build their confidence in math.
They come to school each day ready to try new things and take brave chances in order to grow both personally and academically. These are the type of students that made me want to become a teacher.
My Project
Students will be able to use these items to practice the math concepts at their desks and also demonstrate what they have learned with other members of their group.
By using different colors, markers and colored pencils, my students can demonstrate mathematical concepts by breaking the parts of equations apart and differentiating the parts with different colors which will give my students a better visual to see how numbers and equations can be separated and what each part of the equation is called and looks like.
Graph paper is so expensive when students are trying to understand how to graph the slope-intercept form that, with the use of whiteboards which already have a coordinate plane on them, this will allow less waste of paper and allow for more practice of graphing, and understanding, the slope-intercept equation.
I believe that the whiteboards allow for mistakes to happen and instills a growth mindset way of thinking.
By offering a different way to engage students in their learning, my students can have the opportunity to visually and kinesthetically learn the mathematical concepts to achieve mastery. By using different colors and materials, I can encourage more engagement among my students by providing these types of manipulatives. My students will become more interested, and excited, about sharing and demonstrating their learning.
