Mathematics is a difficult concept to teach to kids and I have found that the use of projects and activities keeps children engaged and learning. Once my students are having fun and learning they begin to feel more at ease with math. One of the biggest challenges I have is that a majority of my students' families just cannot afford to supply some of the basic requests for these activities. Having these items is key to success both inside and outside the classroom.
My Project
Having the proper tools in the math class can mean keeping students involved or completely losing them. By having access to these supplies my students will all be able to participate in class instead of worrying about where they will get the materials when they go home. Being able to have access to the same tools as others make students feel more confident. My students regularly use an interactive notebook that has lots of fun crafts and activities that helps them to maintain their understanding of concepts that are important in the classroom. When students are having fun and feeling confident there is more learning going on!
