My students need 40 calculators for building technology usage skills with mathematics. They need to learn how to use and enter information correctly to be successful in upper level math courses.

My Students

As a teacher in a low-income school district, my students are faced with challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with meaningful learning experiences.

Many of them receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status and come from single parent homes.

Some of them do not even have internet access at home. These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us see as "typical". From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom, I focus on their potential while they are with me. I may not be able to control their home lives, but I can certainly control their experience during the school day. By doing this in a positive way, I am hopeful to inspire my students to continue on a path of academic excellence.

My Project

Students will be able to learn functions of calculators for problem solving that will prepare them for high school math and real world technology use.

The requested TI-30X IIS Scientific Calculators will allow students enough function ability to solve fractions and square roots.

Many students do not have access to calculators at home and the ones that I am currently using do not have the capabilities that these do. This calculator will enhance my students' ability to perform on daily work as well as performance assessments.

My students will enjoy the use of technology in a subject area that is often identified as their weakest.
