My Students
I am a second year teacher getting my own classroom and starting out with ZERO supplies to support my students' learning!
"Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn." is one of my favorite quotes.
Math is often a difficult subject for students to understand so making math come alive in the classroom is crucial. I not only want my students to remember what I teach them, but I want to involve them in what they learn so that they can use these skills forever. Today's math standards require much more communication and application of mathematical processes which requires hands-on learning.
My Project
Having math manipulatives in the classroom would help my students to visually grasp difficult and frustrating mathematical concepts. These math manipulatives and games will enable my fifth grade students to get a better understanding of place value, decimals, fractions, geometry, and problem solving.
Learning math should be fun, not discouraging! These tools would increase student confidence in their math abilities, boost self-esteem, and help students to engage in and model the content. As a new teacher, I wish to provide my fifth grade students with the most memorable and rewarding learning experience that they will never forget!
