This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I adore my students! They are loving and kind. They are vibrant and eager to learn! They are smart, motivated and curious! Above all my students are resilient . . . most coming from low income families who face extreme challenges and yet they succeed!

Most of my students' parents work very long hours .

. . many going to work before the children wake up in the morning and arriving home late in the evening. Most are English Language Learners who are trying their best to learn how to read and write, add and subtract and learn about this great big world all while additionally learning English. They have very few resources at home to support their learning.

My Project

Math is a huge part of what we do every single day. Typically, there is a math lesson where the class is together and students are introduced to a math concept. There is a time for teacher modeling and then for students to work independently. Later in the day I often have students revisit the math objectives during center time.

These math activities will be used to create fun, challenging and exciting math centers.

First grade students learn best when they have hands on materials to touch and move and manipulate. These math activities provide just that!
