I teach first grade at a Title I school. Many of our families are economically challenged, which means students often lack the typical life experiences that help them build the background knowledge necessary for academic success. Nevertheless, they are very capable of learning and have a great desire to do so!
Together we "work hard and get smart"(our school motto)!

My Project
My students love working with magnetic materials! It helps them keep up with small pieces and it's fun!
These phonics sorting and word building games will make the skills we're learning stick!
Students need to practice skills in various ways. Using magnetic materials to sort and build words is unique and keeps learning exciting.
I know these activities will have a positive impact with growing fluent readers in my classroom. Students with strong phonics skills are ready to read and take on more challenging skills such as comprehension and fluency.
