My Kindergarten students are working hard to learn how to read and write and also building early math skills. They are learning how to form relationships and how to work together. COVID-19 has disrupted the lives of the low-income families in our school boundary, so education in the home has become less of a priority.
Students need hands-on learning, especially at this time. If they can use their hands and learn through play, they tend to catch up faster and retain information better. My project will help give students hands-on center activities. This is needed at a time when education is not a priority at home. It also alleviates stress and emotional tensions when students aren’t sitting doing worksheets all day. With these hands-on materials, students will be working and engaged together. They will be practicing social skills as well as academic skills.
