My students are really hard working kids who love to explore the world around them and create their own meanings from what they experience. The town we live in was in the path of Hurricane Harvey and many of the families and schools are still struggling to catch up from the problems left by the storm, which limits our ability to add extra materials to our classrooms.
They are, like all kids, fascinated with hands-on learning and would learn much more enthusiastically if we had the resources to allow the kids to use different manipulatives/games in class.
The students were able to understand the concepts they are learning when using manipulatives and playing games on a much deeper level. They were able to take control of their own learning. This allowed the students to help them build a much more firm foundation for learning. It also created opportunities for them to investigate and research themselves and build the skills needed to become lifelong learners.
My Project
My students love to have fun and need a chance to do so while learning! The town we live in was heavily impacted by Hurricane Harvey. This added a lot of stress to my students' lives. I want to give these students the opportunity to enjoy learning again! We will use these games across the curriculum to review skills and apply knowledge learned. The materials listed will give students an opportunity to create games to play during math and ELAR time.
Playing games while learning will create an environment where students are using teamwork, problem-solving and communication skills!
My students will not only learn during these games, but will create a bond with their classmates while doing so!
The dominoes, cards, and Fractions & Decimals Folder Game Library will allow my students to engage in math in a fun, low stress way! They will be less likely to give up when learning gets difficult. The Reading Informational Text Folder Game Library will also allow my students to take chances when making inferences in a low-risk setting so that they feel more confident when we review this skill in class!
These games will allow my class to become a stronger community of learners!
