Our middle school is currently in its second year. We are serving grades 5-7 this school year, and we will keep all the same students next year in grades 6-8. I am the teacher librarian for the school and am in the unique position to serve all of our students! Our school is a Title I, free lunch school.
Our students love visiting the library and makerspace.
They enjoy checking out books, working on cool STEAM projects, being engaged by hands-on projects, and working collaboratively! Middle school is a unique time where students still love play, but are also navigating social relationships.
Having materials and activities that encourage students to work together is a critical need in my library. Thank you for helping my students be successful!
My Project
Our media center is a place where students can learn in hands-on, engaging ways.
Board Games and Stikbot Studios will help students work on their critical thinking skills, cooperation, and in different ways to express their ideas!
We were able to borrow Stikbot Studios this school year, and both teachers and students love them! Creating green-screen, stop-motion videos was a great way for students to be creative and show their knowledge off in a new, interactive way.
My students also love playing card and board games! I have chosen a variety that will work on math skills, literacy, team-building, and cooperation. The profile of a South Carolina graduate includes a lot of "soft skills," and games are a good way to encourage and develop these skills!
