Elementary school is where students discover their passions and build foundations for their future learning. My classroom needs a 3D printer to help give students a solid STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) education.
My students are a great group of 5th graders from a rural town in Pennsylvania.
Many come from socio-economically disadvantaged households, but we try our best not to let that interfere with learning. They love having fun, but know how to get the work done. As we move into using the national Common Core standards over the next year, students will be expected to be able to successfully utilize technology resources and in order to keep up with today's society, they will also need to have a solid STEM education. Using technology will be an important part of students' futures, whether they choose to head to college or join the workforce.
My Project
My students need the MakerBot Academy-3D Printing Bundle to help them learn about abstract concepts in subjects like science and math. The Makerbot 3D printer bundle will expose my students to this innovative technology. It will teach them computational skills, as well as critical thinking skills like creativity and problem solving. We will be able to create math and science manipulatives to help students learn about abstract concepts. It will also get them interested in computer programming, technology and engineering, and hopefully ignite a passion for science, technology, engineering, and math. I would love to create a classroom full of future innovative engineers, architects, and inventors!
The addition of the Makerbot 3D printer to my classroom will make a positive impact on the lives of my students.
It will expose them to brand new concepts in technology and help them understand important concepts in science and math. These STEM skills will serve as the foundations of their future.
