My Students

My school is Title I and is located in a small North Carolina town. It has a diverse population in which the majority of the students are economically disadvantaged. Almost half of my students are also learning English as their second language.

My students are full of enthusiasm for learning, but often come to school without the necessary tools.

As their teacher, I want to provide them with all of the resources they need in order to learn and be successful.

My Project

Students learn better when they are actively engaged in hands-on activities. After reading a story in class, my students are going to be making posters. They will be using the markers, art pens and cardstock to create these posters. The posters will cover comprehension skills such as main idea/supporting details, problem/solution, sequence of events and much more. The tempera paint sticks will be used to add color to the posters. The students will also be able to use these materials in other academic areas such as science and social studies.

These items are going to be used to encourage and motivate a student-centered learning environment.

Students will be able to take ownership of their own learning using the markers, paint sticks and cardstock. Just imagine how proud they will feel when these posters are hung up around the classroom and in the hallway. Thank you for supporting education!
