I teach in a K-5 Resource/Behavioral Classroom. There are currently 40 students being served in our classroom. Each student has an individualized program focusing on academic and behavioral needs. The staff works to create an inviting classroom that stresses a strong sense of community where students learn safety, responsibility and respect. Many of the children are homeless or come from highly mobile families, so it is imperative that we make the most of our time with them. We are working to create an atmosphere of both support and challenge each day.
Engaged, determined, energetic; my students are eager to learn and be successful.
They love to practice their skills in a variety of modalities, playing games, using manipulatives and using repetition in order to learn to mastery. It is our goal to help each of them be prepared to enter the world ready to take on any challenge.
My Project
I have students from multiple levels with varying degrees of skills academically and fine motor. Laminating materials will provide them with a variety of supplies that can be used in small group interventions, as well as in inclusive settings. Being able to reuse the supplies enables the students to get additional repetition and practice above and beyond what might be available in a regular setting. Laminating materials also helps them to be sturdier, providing additional support for motor skills activities. Having a diverse population in our school requires us to provide a wide range of materials and supplies that can be used at both home and school.
