Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a U.S. History teacher in a very diverse community in the Houston area. I have students that are from a variety of backgrounds and nationalities. Many of my students are either immigrants or first generation Americans. I teach advanced classes, so many of my students are motivated to learn, but sometimes have cultural differences or gaps that make learning U.S. History a little bit difficult. Additionally, this is a Title I school, so lack of money can be an issue as well.
My Project
Did you know that not only can colors affect your mood, they can also affect your ability to learn? I would like to allow my students the opportunity to create study notes on brightly colored paper to keep them interested in studying.
Lively colors will bring my student's notes alive and keep everything from being boring and white!
The use of yellow can create a positive and feeling and maintain attention, orange can increase alertness, red can create excitement and blue can calm you down. These are all emotions that can help a student learn better. Studying isn't always fun, but with colored paper my students are not likely to lose their notes, and lets be honest, that is one of the first steps to being successful!
