This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.

My students are hard working, eager to learn, and amazing!

They like to move, they love to read, and love lots of positive attention. Most of them are being raised in single parent households and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. This has prevented them from getting ahead and have not been provided with the life experiences many of us see as "typical". From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. I may not be able to control their home lives, however, I can certainly control their experience during the school day. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hopeful to inspire even our earliest learners to continue on a path of academic excellence.

My Project

This project will provide social learning skills and team solving strategies by using board games and activities to provide during indoor recess. Children get minimal time to work on social skills during the school day, these activities will allow them to work together as friends and solve differences while building relationships. I feel the art supplies will provide opportunities to express themselves, I’ve also chosen some math activities to help enrich “Math conversations” with one another! The students said they love playing HedBanz, because they have to think of creative ways to describe a word without saying the word! I also chose Legos so the kids can have the opportunity to work together to make something better! My goal is to give my kids the opportunity to work on Mental awareness and learn that they are not alone, We are all in this together
