My students need access to quality social studies materials. With Oregon Fourth Grade Social Studies Weekly and Scholastic News, they will get access to both history and current events.

My Students

My students are bright, engaging, young minds. Our school is an urban, inner city, Title 1 school. My students come from an array of incredibly diverse backgrounds.They are socio-economically, religiously, culturally, and racially very diverse. As an example we have 22 languages spoken in our school.

These kids come together every day to share their thinking and lives with each other.

They are wonderful readers and thinkers. I am excited for them to grow up to be the next generation of adults.

My Project

I am constantly searching for resources that I can use to challenge and engage my students. My students love to read and now they have the opportunity to use Studies Weekly Newspapers and Scholastic News to help support our Social Studies and Reading curriculum. I am requesting 32 copies of a Oregon Social Studies Weekly newspaper and 15 copies of Scholastic News for students to read about current events.

This informational text will come weekly and expose my students to different type of media than they are accustomed to.

Having newspapers and magazines that directly links with our social studies and literary standards is essential in covering all the content required.
