Educational extras are a luxury for our students. We are a neighborhood middle school with a significant immigrant population. Our classrooms are multi-national, multi-cultural and bi-lingual.
Our common goal is to understand mathematics.
The diversity within our classrooms sometimes makes this goal challenging to attain. The one constant is our students' curiosity and desire to learn.
Eliminating barriers to learning and enhancing the learning environment are priorities for us. We want to provide our students with the educational extras they can't provide for themselves. Ultimately, we want our students to realize they can succeed, not only in math, but also in life.
My Project
Developing activities to help students understand math, while also trying to close gaps on prior math concepts, is more engaging for students when they have what many people consider to be everyday, common school supplies. For many of my students, these items are neither common nor everyday. They are luxuries used in my classroom when these supplies are available. At this time, our cupboard is almost bare.
Students can display their work and exchange ideas when using the Post-it Super Sticky Easel Pads.
It gives them a platform to work together and build positive interactions with each other. Ideas can be shared there without judgement, especially when students use Post-it Super Sticky Notes with the easel pads. They can express themselves without the spotlight on them when we have these supplies in our classroom.
