Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students are not stopped by poverty. Though they live in the Arkansas Delta and many have never left the town they live in, they are hungry for information and eager to create in my art room.

My students are part of a rural farming community where approximately 98% of them receive free or reduced-price lunch.

They live in poverty but do not allow that to define them. These students are creative, innovative, and energetic! Nothing can hold them back, and I want to make sure they have everything they need to succeed in the art classroom.

My Project

My classroom is a choice-based art room. In my class, students get to make choices about what materials they use to make art and what they make art about. My class is divided into centers. The drawing center is one of our most lacking centers but is often visited by students. Expanding the drawing center would allow students to explore ideas even further and build confidence!

My students are enthusiastic about drawing and need more tools to help them make the most of the Drawing Center!

Included in this project are drawing books to build the confidence of my students, books to give ideas, books about lettering, additional colored pencils for students, and animals and fruits for observational drawing.
